Why You Need to Try End-of-Year Resolutions

Why You Need to Try End-of-Year Resolutions

Maggie a la Mode - Why You Need to Try End-of-Year Resolutions

I have never been one to get into the spirit of New Years Resolutions. They never work and quite honestly, are vapid and empty promises to myself that taper down after a month or two. My husband recently brought up the idea of doing End of Year Resolutions instead, and it makes so much more sense to me! You have a closer deadline (January 1) and therefore more motivation to get done what you need to get done. It can be as small as finishing a small home project before the end of the year, or as big as reaching your goal weight.

Now, End of Year Resolutions are basically New Years Resolutions that you start back up again, but I like having that set deadline more in focus. A whole year is a long time to commit to something that typically you don’t end up doing anyway. That way you can start the New Year with a fresh slate with having already accomplished something! Some of my resolutions to complete before the end of the year are below - what are some of yours?

My End of Year Resolutions:

  • Finish Staining our Backyard Fence - We have already stained the inside of the fence, but not the outside. It was something we procrastinated on this majorly this summer (yeah, I know it's November) but can still probably get done. There are only a few panels left!

  • Hire a Private Chef - This is something I want to do before the end of the year, so that we can start getting meals in the New Year. Nate and I both work a lot and typically don't want to cook something by the time we get home, and with a baby on the way it’ll be great to not have to cook at all! I'd love to have pre-made meals ready to pop in the oven to save time and my sanity.

  • Finish Baby’s Nursery - With Baby Z due in late January, I want her nursery to be done before the end of the year just in case she wants to make an early appearance. There is one wall we want to point and we already have her furniture on the way. I’ve been in major nesting mode with getting the room cleaned out, too. We only have a 2-bedroom house, so it was used before as a storage/whatever-else room, so now trying to get it organized is a big job. Slowly but surely we’re getting there!

  • Major Closet Cleanout - Every once in a while I like to do a major cleanout of my closet and get rid of items that I haven’t worn in a while. It typically takes me a few iterations because there will be things I really love, but still just don’t wear. Those are the hardest to get rid of, but I always tell myself that I’d rather have something else in its place that I’d actually use. I’ll either post the items on my Poshmark, or take them to a consignment shop near me. If they don’t sell, then I’ll donate them. I’d like to do this by the end of the year as next year I know I won’t have nearly as much downtime to do it!

What are your thoughts on End of Year Resolutions?
